Amalgam or white filling
Amalgam
This is a filling material which first occurred on the market almost 200 years ago and has a stable place in dentistry. Therefore we have a lot of information about its characteristic. There have already been many attempts to replace amalgam with other filling materials and so avoid the arguments about its possible malignity. But the truth is that amalgam seems to be the best solution in many cases of tooth damage.
Amalgam is a fusion of mercury with one or several other metals, for example with silver, gold or with lead. Its big disadvantage is its dark color. Conversely it is often the best option for fillings in the back teeth. Moreover thanks to the content of metal it has antibacterial properties.
White filling
White or fotocomposit filling is a highly aesthetic replacement of a part of a tooth. This filling is exactly the same color and shape as your tooth. Therefore the use of white filling is irreplaceable in treating the front teeth. To achieve these fillings it is necessarry to have a dry surrounding of the tooth. Therefore to achieve the best results perfect hygiene without bleeding of the gums is necessary. Fotocomposit white fillings are the ideal solution for small caries and are not suitable for places with high tooth cariosity or unsatisfactory hygiene.
